Wow。 So much action。 And ultra instinct ????

Goku has this great moment where Kame-senin is fighting Jiren and dodging his attacks and teaches Goku something and awakens the ULTRA INSTINCT i him, though not perfect the way their fight goes is amazing and they fight but then Pride troppers all get knocked down and its upto Jiren to fight and save his universe, 17 self destructs but Goku vs Jiren, the final fight is on and its so cool! Really well done volume and the clash of the titans is showing! This volume was so cool and so many fights, awesome moments for some characters and tragic endings for some and a big power up for Goku and the art perfectly exhibited that!! 。。。more

El maestro Roshi sigue siendo el maestro de maestros。 Ahora bien, sé que es una opinión impopular pero agradezco que desaparecieran a todos esos otros universos en 1 solo cap acelerando la historia。 De hecho fue bastante entretenido。

The Tournament of Power continues in this Volume and I was surprised at how different than the anime it was, though Dragon Ball has always taken longer on the anime than the manga。Changes and Highlights:- Debut of Golden Freeza vs SSJ Caulifla- Unveil of Legendary Super Saiyan Kale。。。 after which she singlehandedly takes out the remaining fighters from Universes 3, 4, 2, and 10- Caulifla reveals she has a pair of Potara Earrings and she fuses with Kale (to help tame her urges) and becomes Kefla- The Tournament of Power continues in this Volume and I was surprised at how different than the anime it was, though Dragon Ball has always taken longer on the anime than the manga。Changes and Highlights:- Debut of Golden Freeza vs SSJ Caulifla- Unveil of Legendary Super Saiyan Kale。。。 after which she singlehandedly takes out the remaining fighters from Universes 3, 4, 2, and 10- Caulifla reveals she has a pair of Potara Earrings and she fuses with Kale (to help tame her urges) and becomes Kefla- Gohan (admitting he no longer will go SSJ) vs Kefla。。。 they knock each other of the ring- With Kefla down, Universe 6 is eliminated- Goku vs Jiren, but interrupted by Master Roshi who teaches Goku he still doesn't move properly- Roshi vs Jiren。。。 and he holds his own for a bit!- Roshi's defeat leads to first obtaining of Ultra Instinct for Goku- When Goku is knocked out of Ultra Instinct, the rage at him achieving it first brings a strong pride and anger to Vegeta and he holds his own against Jiren for a bit- Freeza vs。 Top and Dyspo, Freeza survives- Android 17 tries to self-destruct on Jiren, blows up half the ring, doesn't defeat JirenLots different but I would have loved to see Roshi's fight as well as Kale unleashed even more than she was on the anime。 Oh well。。。Great Volume。 Looking forward to the next, which ends the Tournament AND moves past where the anime left off。Strong recommend。 。。。more

This is so good, it make sense more than the anime。Gohan isn’t useless and weak at all, he is a sight to be seen。The SSJB isn’t a joke, it’s too relevant and convenient。The whole tournament timing makes sense and the difference in power level is obvious。

Gave up and added a "hype" shelf because I need something for all the shit that stands out for making me choke up like a dumbass nerd at some wacky shounen battle manga powerup bullshit because god damn do I love Dragon Ball。So, basically, this is the volume where Ultra Instinct is introduced, and it's just beautiful。 I guess。 When UI was first teased in the anime, I thought it was weird that we were going backward from the red and blue hair colors。 And then Son Goku got fucking silver hair, and Gave up and added a "hype" shelf because I need something for all the shit that stands out for making me choke up like a dumbass nerd at some wacky shounen battle manga powerup bullshit because god damn do I love Dragon Ball。So, basically, this is the volume where Ultra Instinct is introduced, and it's just beautiful。 I guess。 When UI was first teased in the anime, I thought it was weird that we were going backward from the red and blue hair colors。 And then Son Goku got fucking silver hair, and I felt it was weird we were going back to the colorful hair。 And Mr。 Popo taught Goku to turn his brain off and allow his body to move itself a loooooooooooong time ago。 UI is basically Kenshiro's Buddha shit in Fist of the North Star。 Kind of a ripoff。 BUT it's also awesome because so many Weekly Shounen Jump series have ripped off the escalating Saiyan transformations that it's disgusting (pretty sure Naruto Uzumaki has like 15 forms), so really the only way to go is backward。 Battle manga used to be two schools: Hokuto no Ken and Saint Seiya (or so we'll say for simplicity's sake)。 Dragon Ball began with more martial arts focus, but then started getting zany with Super Saiyan stuff, which wasn't too different from higher-level Cloths from Saint Seiya。 Goku gets so strong that Toriyama gave his editor the middle finger with SS3's dumb hair。 Then Goku gets God Ki and becomes skinny and his hair turns red。 Then we just get Super Saiyan Blue。 Now Goku is on the verge of dismissing Super Saiyan transformations in favor of the UI "technique," which allows Vegeta to stay on the Super Saiyan line and master Blue in this same volume (getting a full aura of blue flames rather than the toothpaste chunks of previous Blue), and Gohan dismissing his Saiyan blood entirely to strengthen himself as a human (though really his Mystic form should count as God Ki, but fuck it)。I've unfortunately seen too many arguments on the Internet regarding whether or not UI is a "transformation" or if it is simply a "technique。" We might argue the whitish hair highlights and irises are less a physical transformation and more an aesthetic effect to show the clarity of Goku's mind。 But then his hair will soon turn silver and it's harder to argue that Mastered UI isn't just a flat new form。 I think we're believing Angels are always in UI, hence their white hair。 My headcanon is that Goku's silver hair is an example of a mortal's take on UI, just as a mortal Saiyan has blue hair while activation Super Saiyan with God Ki, whereas the divine Zamasu has pink hair as Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black。 Activating God Ki isn't necessarily a transformation, I wouldn't say。 You flip a switch, God Ki turns on, and the consequence is you lose muscle mass and your hair and eyes turn red。 Which is basically a transformation, but it's more "natural" than the manufactured forms of SS2 and 3, for example。 SS Blue counts as a transformation because it can only be just that; it involves going SS, which is undeniably a transformation。 So maybe when a Saiyan masters UI it does something to the hair and eyes and makes them silver, but I think the simpler "Sign" version is more a "technique。" Not that it really matters, just I like to overthink stuff about Dragon Ball, like my SS2 essay for a previous Super volume。Anyway, I choked up when Goku first when UI -Sign-, then I choked up when Juunana-gou "sacrificed himself," then when Goku did UI again。Oh, wait, I also wanted to talk about the U6 Saiyan girls。 We've only previously seen Fasha in the non-canon Bardock special, and then the noncombatant Gine who is Goku's mom。 Planet Vegeta is mostly a sausage fest, if for no other reason than that shounen battle manga are sausage fests。 I guess it's really hard to make women fighters cool, or otherwise it's that these sort of manga are meant to appeal to 12-year-old boys and Japanese middle-schoolers just want to see strong dudes kick the shit out of each other? This is a strange part about shounen battle manga, because when I was 12 everyone liked Orihime and Yoruichi and Rangiku in Bleach。 Basically just because they were hot。 The latter two got to fight a little, but they were ultimately overshadowed by male characters。 As a kid, one wants to see more male characters I guess for the power fantasy。 In pubescence, one wants to see big fat cartoon titties and stuff, while still enjoying the fantasy violence, but I guess no one ever cares to combine the two。 It's weird that there are so many "battle harem" light novels and yet so few shounen manga with strong female fighters。 Kale and Caulifla were kinda just shoehorned into Super for the coomers。 I think they were actual Toei ideas rather than Toriyama's own, but the point is it's pretty clear they won't get to do much cool shit, especially since the male U6 Saiyan Cabba is just a twig himself。 In the anime, we see Caulifla asspull a SS2 form shortly after Cabba teaches the basic SS level。 Also in the anime, Kale is more obviously a female Broly, as her muscle mass is comically oversized。 Good on Toyotarou for toning it down a bit, but bad for all parties involved for sticking with the dumb "Legendary" moniker, as if to further diminish the merits of Goku being the first canon Super Saiyan。 It's weird that Kale is a Broly ripoff when Broly would later be canonized in the new movie (even weirder since this volume has an interview at the end about Toriyama's designs for the Broly movie), but it's partly balanced by creating the Potara fusion Kefla, who is just a fit woman in yoga pants rather than a She-Hulk。 Caulifla, Kale, and Kefla are all cute, but immensely underutilized, which is par for the course for Dragon Ball。 It's funny to see all of MegaHouse's "Dragon Ball Gals" figures of Juuhachi-gou when she hardly does anything in the series。 She's been in a bunch of video games for little reason other than to meet a quota for having at least one female character。 Good on Kefla for getting into Dragon Ball FighterZ, but it's hardly an accomplishment when this game gave us the coomer-friendly Majin 21 (in fairness, I'm something of a coomer myself, and so enjoy both Kefla and 21)。I complained in my review for Volume 7 that the ToP introduces too many characters just to do nothing with them。 LSS Kale is a good plot device for greatly cutting the roster down to size。 She's a bad plot device because the ease with which she takes everyone out and the ease with which she's subdued ("dude just put a Potara on her lmao") combine to prompt the question "Why not just have a smaller roster to begin with?" But whatever, this shit's mostly fun anyway。 。。。more

The Tournament of Power is still going on with contenders being eliminated left and right。 Compared to the anime, the tournament if quite rushed and changed the personalities of some contenders drastically。

Better than previous volumes, character moments like those Mr。 Roshi's moves is what I wanted to see at this stage, it has been ages since the series honors martials arts, long gone are the tactics and the special moves, it's all about new power levels, I bet we get a new one on the next volume (edit: we did!)。 Better than previous volumes, character moments like those Mr。 Roshi's moves is what I wanted to see at this stage, it has been ages since the series honors martials arts, long gone are the tactics and the special moves, it's all about new power levels, I bet we get a new one on the next volume (edit: we did!)。 。。。more

Goku and co are in for the fight of their lives! So this is wildly different than the anime。 Much quicker paced and far more interesting fights。 Watching Kale verse Gohan is great, Vegeta being a badass, and Goku getting his shit wrecked is all much more entertaining in the manga TBH。 I also enjoyed the pacing as everything happens so quick and it feels like the plot is moving quickly。 I did miss Goku amazing finisher on kale but the rest is good and the fights are very entertaining。 Hope this f Goku and co are in for the fight of their lives!
